Shirakawa-go is a picturesque and historic village located in the remote mountains of central Japan. Famous for its traditional Gassho-zukuri farmhouses, the village is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These unique thatched-roof houses are characterized by their steep, A-frame design that resembles hands in prayer (Gassho), allowing them to withstand heavy snowfall in the winter.
